Should I have pocketed the 100 bucks?

I was cycling on the left side of the road when he side mirror of a car coming from behind caught my elbow and sent me crashing to the road. I released the handlebars and jumped quite clear but suffered superficial blueblacks I found later under thick winter clothing. Driver had just-go-out-of-bed hair and pajama jacket. He handed me 100 bucks. It wouldn't pay for a new bicycle. This accident deformed my bicycle - the bell has fallen off - but it's still serviceable.

I give the guy points for stopping, but the police should have been called. That's no different than 2 motor vehicles colliding.

When I've been in similar situations, the driver didn't stop, and I was unfortunately unable to get the tag numbers.

Having said that, once you've accepted the $100, the other driver has reason to assume its a closed issue, and I'm not sure I disagree with him.
