Anyone Tried Solid Bicycle Tyres Instead of Pneumatics?

I'm talking about the Green Tyres which are solid, puncture proof and made from polyurethane. Apparently they come in a range of colours. Here is the link.

GreenTyre makes special flat-free tires. From the company's home page: "Greentyres are molded from one piece of micro-cellular polyurethane. There's no inner tube, only millions of tiny air pockets (or cells) that give Greentyres a comfortable and flat free ride." They claim performance similar to standard tires. They're wrong. The 24" pair I got was so mushy it was like riding on flats. They do have some higher-performance tires for racing bikes, but the tires they have for most commuting bikes and mountain bikes don't have very good performance.

Well, unless they have really improved the concept, I would think back to the late nineteenth century when a certain Mr. Dunlop invented the pneumatic tyre. Now, why do you think it replaced the solid rubber tyre so quickly? That issue is not addressed in their website. What I'd want to know is, how are these tyres better than the ones that became obsolete over a hundred years ago?
