Guinea Pig owners.....how long have yours lived?

I have a guinea pig who is 5 but everyone I know who has had guinea pigs has said that theirs only lived for a few years. Also has anyone had a vicious guinea pig, ours was vicious for the first few years and we had to handle him with leather motor cycle gloves to protect our hands. Thankfully he's mellowed with age. Anyone else experienced biting piggies also, please let me know.

My oldest piggy - Polo - was just under 8 when he passed away. He was a very tough little guy, and survived having his eye removed at the grand old age of 6! He was very feisty up until the day of his death and gave me many great memories. I have two guinea pigs at the moment, Cola who's 4 and Daybreak who's not even a year yet.

Oh and no, I have owned many guineas and work at an animal charity and have never come across a 'biter'. Congratulations for persevering with yours!!
