What were the basic elements in Hitlerism, or German fascism, that led to the concentration camps and the extermination of six million Jews and six million other persons?
After WW1 the German people were in debt to the countries they lost too. They people went through a bitter depression during the 1920's. People became angry that a small minority (jews), had made a profit from their suffering. Many Germans believed the jews had actually conspired against the Germans during WW1.
Hitler explained in Mein Kampf that jews take over the media, banks, and attempt to control the masses. These were the basic reasons why Germany rounded up so many jews. The one theory I've come to believe is that most of the jews simply starved to death in the camps. The German soldiers were starving also. WW2 American POW's told my grandfather that they nearly starved to death, but were treated humanely by the Germans. They said the German soldiers were starving also. Yes, many jews were systematically killed also.
War is hell, people suffer during war. It's stupid, but it's human nature at it's worst. Remember that fifty five million people died during WW2.
