Do I have a case for compensation? (cycling, UK)?

The facts are these:

I was travelling on a mainroad downhill with no bicycle lights or clothing.

The car was stopped on the sideroad waiting to go on the mainroad.

As I passed infront of the car, it accelerated and hit me from the side still accelerating.

Even though I had no lights, I was in front of the car when it started to accelerate and hit me so the driver would not have been looking forward carefully.

Do I have a case?

I don't think its fair to be so tough on you... After all, you were hit by a car, and you would wish for otherwise.

I think it will be tough to make your case; in the U.S. cyclists are seen as recreational, not as an official mode or transportation so they tend to lose ground despite the evidences.

From your perspective your defense would be that cars have to yield to other travelers, but only given that he knows your presence (if he can't see you, he doesn't know you are there). From his defense he just has to say that he cannot see you, and the main evidence is that you did not have the proper equipment to make yourself seen in the dark. If the streets were well lit then you may have support there.
